The India vs Australia T20I series was graced with a world record. The man to achieve it was Abhishek Sharma. He broke a record set by Tim David and Suryakumar Yadav in the fifth and final match of the series with India leading 2-1 going into the match.
Abhishek Sharma Enters the Record BooksThe 25-year-old southpaw became the fastest batter to score 1000 T20I runs in terms of balls. He achieved the feat in 528 deliveries. David’s record was 569 so he broke it by some distance. He came into the game needing 11 runs to break it and it did not take him long to do so. However, one must remember that David’s record is only playing for Australia and not internationally as he has played for Singapore as well. Suryakumar’s record was in overall internationals. So when David broke Suryakumar’s record earlier in the series, it was for fastest to 1000 T20I runs in least balls for one country. Now Suryakumar’s record of fastest to 1000 T20I runs in international cricket be it for one or more country is also broken as he had done it in 573 balls compared to Abhishek’s 528.

As far as innings are concerned, Abhishek took 28 innings from 29 games to complete the milestone. He’s the second fastest among Indians with Virat Kohli leading the pack having done it in 27 innings. The top position of least innings belongs to Dawid Malan who did it in 24 innings. It’s shared by Sabawoon Davizi.
The Rise of Abhishek SharmaThe youngster made his debut in the middle of 2024 and since then has been rising through the ranks and it is safe to say he is not just India’s but the best T20I batter in the world at the moment. With the T20 World Cup three months away, these are good signs for the Men in Blue.

The best part about Abhishek’s aggressive batting is that he plays proper cricket shots and does not slog wildly. He has a good technique so he is fun to watch as well. The man’s shots are a mixture of grace and power and possess excellent timing. No wonder he’s a nightmare for the bowlers, especially in the first six overs.
He has at least 10 years of international cricket left in him, form and fitness permitting. The lefthander has a long way to go but he is currently on the right track. Abhishek is no longer the future of Indian cricket, he’s very much the present.
