After a whitewash in India Tests, West Indies (WI) will be hosted by Bangladesh (BAN) for the first ODI at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday, October 18. The next two games of the three-match assignment will also be held at the same iconic venue in the country, followed by T20Is in Chattogram.
Bangladesh will be coming into the contest on the back of a crushing whitewash in the multi-format series against Afghanistan, which was played in the UAE. The Afghan side first clinched the T20Is, and then won all three 50-over contests to complete a clean sweep over the Bangla Tigers. However, playing at home, the Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led side will be confident of putting up a show on Saturday.
The West Indies, on the other hand, have travelled to the Bangladeshi land after a series against neighbouring Indian side for a couple of Test matches. They lost both the matches and are yet to open their account in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. With the 2027 ODI World Cup fast approaching, the two-time champions will want to ensure their place in the tournament, after missing out on qualification in 2023.

The iconic cricketing landmark in Bangladesh — the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, located in Mirpur, Dhaka, has recently undergone redevelopments across the pitch and the outfield, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board upped the standards of the venue. In fact, the game on Saturday will be the first one at the venue after the redevelopment. However, in 15 ODIs where 300-plus were recorded by teams batting first, only twice the opposition managed to chase it down. Hence, it can be considered a winning total.
