New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh will establish a Space City at Tirupati for launch of private satellites and two major defence manufacturing hubs at Madakasira, with an investment of ₹3,000 cr.
Andhra Pradesh has awarded contract to develop a space city to Skyroot Aerospace, an eight-year-old startup which designs cost-effective launch vehicles for small satellites and has been founded by former ISRO scientists. Skyroot Aerospace will set up the space city at Tirupati with an investment of ₹400 cr and will be spread over 300 acres. The state has planned the space city at Tirupati due to its proximity to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. This will be the first space city to come up under the state's Aerospace and Defence Policy, which was unveiled in June this year. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has set a target of attracting ₹50,000 crore to ₹1 lakh crore investments over the next five years and develop the state as a defence and aerospace manufacturing hub.
Under the policy, the state has also approved two major investments for defence manufacturing hubs.
