Veteran actor Dharmendra was recently discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on November 12 for medical observation. According to PTI’s report, the doctor at the hospital confirmed his discharge and said the Deols have taken him back home. Amid hospitalisation, fans are praying for recovery and also lauding the enduring bond with wife and actress Hema Malini. The relationship has often been the subject of admiration, curiosity, and controversy.
Hema Malini-Dharmendra's love story
The two legendary stars, who met on the sets of Tu Haseen Main Jawan (1970), shared a connection that defied norms and expectations. Over the years, they gave us numerous hits and worked in more than 40 movies. Yet, behind their fairy-tale romance lies a story of compromise, strength, and dignity, one that Hema herself has spoken about with honesty.
Over the years, people have talked about the 'unconventional' marriage with Hema Malini. Their love story, one of Bollywood’s most discussed, happened while Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur and had four children, Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta, and Ajeita. Despite societal scrutiny, Hema followed her heart but made choices that showed her grace and self-awareness.
In her biography Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl, she shared that she chose not to live with Dharmendra after marriage. According to her, it was a conscious decision made out of respect for his first family. “I didn’t want to disturb anyone,” she explained, adding that she was content with whatever her husband did for her and their daughters, Esha and Ahana.
On facing challenges and decision to not live together after marriage
Hema has also spoken candidly about being labelled the “other woman.” She revealed that fingers were pointed and accusations were made, but she never let it shake her faith in her choices. “People talked behind my back, but I knew what made me happy,” she said. For her, happiness and love outweighed societal expectations.
Earlier, during a candid chat with Lehren Retro, Hema acknowledged that her marriage did not fit the conventional mould. “Nobody wants to live like this, but life teaches you acceptance,” she shared, adding that she found joy in raising her two daughters and building an independent life for herself. Hema Malini didn't sulk but accepted it happily.
Meanwhile, Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan also dropped by the hospital last night to wish the veteran actor Dharmendra a speedy recovery. In an Instagram post, Hema Malini thanked fans for their prayers and assured them that he is being well taken care of.
