Congress leader and Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, has once again launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Known for his outspoken remarks, Kharge questioned the RSS’s legal standing and transparency, while also taking indirect jabs at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Why Is RSS Afraid of the Constitution?”Speaking to reporters, Kharge asked why the RSS, which calls itself the world’s largest voluntary organization, avoids registering itself under Indian law.
He said, “I have no issue with the RSS as long as it functions within the framework of the law. But why is it afraid of India’s Constitution? Why hasn’t it registered itself as an organization? How can an unregistered body inspire millions to take out marches across the country?”
Kharge also raised questions about the security cover provided to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, saying, “Why does the head of the largest NGO in the world receive top-level security? Why is taxpayers’ money being used for him?”
Kharge Reminds of Sardar Patel’s Ban on RSSReferring to the time when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel imposed a ban on the RSS after Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, Kharge said, “When Patel banned the RSS, its leaders went to him pleading for mercy. The ban was lifted only after they promised to stay away from politics, violence, and to respect the Constitution and the national flag. Are they doing that now? Clearly not.”
“RSS Wants Manusmriti, Not the Constitution”Continuing his criticism, Kharge accused the Sangh of trying to replace constitutional values with those from the Manusmriti.
He said, “The RSS was even banned during the Emergency under Indira Gandhi. People should read what their then-chief wrote to her. The BJP doesn’t even read its own magazine ‘Organiser’. If they did, they’d know their real history.”
He added, “Read and you’ll learn how the RSS wanted Manusmriti to be India’s Constitution, how Savarkar earned the title ‘Veer’, and how he received a pension from the British after writing mercy petitions.”
“I Want to Donate to the Sangh — Tell Me the Bank Account”Taking a sarcastic tone, Priyank Kharge said he is ready to contribute to the RSS — provided it becomes a transparent organization.
He remarked, “If the RSS becomes accountable and opens its financial records, I’ll gladly donate. I want to give a cheque directly to Mohan Bhagwat in Nagpur. But tell me — which bank account should I deposit it in?”
The Karnataka minister also renewed his demand to ban RSS activities in public places and educational institutions, arguing that the organization promotes divisive ideology. He has reportedly written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking a formal restriction on RSS events in the state.
Kharge also recently shared a video on social media claiming that he was threatened and abused over his remarks, calling for firm action and reiterating his stance that RSS should be banned in Karnataka.
