Gogglebox star Sophie Sandiford has announced her engagement. She is set to tie the knot with her partner Ben McKeown, who has proposed at the elegant Galgorm Resort in Northern Ireland. Posing in a brown robe with the spa's logo, Sophie and Ben looked blissfully happy as Sophie went to the spa to show off her beautiful sapphire engagement ring, mounted on a silver band and adorned with diamonds.
The 18th century spa and resort could not have been a better place to pop the question, as celebrities far and wide have travelled to the stunning venue to try out its decadent forest lodges and famous outdoor spa. Huge Hollywood names such as Liam Neeson and Michael Fassbender have been to the venue, and One Direction star Niall Horan also went to Galgorm for the Northern Ireland Open in 2019.
Galgorm is 450 acres of gardens and woodlands, and boasts a stunning spa which features outdoor hot tubs, aromatherapy sauna, ice room, and even gives clients the opportunity to try a "Celtic spa infusion". If you're accustomed to high-end spas, this delivers on wow-factor.
The venue is truly the place where time gets lost. It is so easy to lose track of time while you can relax in the River House with heated seats with a water view, before trying out the many saunas, pools ands steam rooms. The spa is truly top-notch. My only complaint was that while the hot tub offer drinks services, they were on the top price end, making it difficult to relax in the bubbles with some bubbles.
Not only are the spa facilities incredible, Galgorm also boasts an extensive menu of treatments with experienced staff, who can also offer you an analysis of your body, helping you understand your aches and pains and how to fix them.
The venue also offers shepherds huts, which come with outdoor baths, a firepit and your own patio in total seclusion, giving people the chance to have the ultimate getaway.
They also feature thoughtful touches like Dyson hairdryers, a complimentary minibar and welcome gin and tonics and chocolate. You are also offered a handy takeaway menu, so if you, like me, are cosy in your warm lodge and don't want to leave, they'll bring you whatever you need to your door.
The beauty of such a big resort is that you can totally switch off and not think about anything. The breakfast runs until 12pm each day, so you can have a well-deserved lie in.
Restaurant Gillies is on your doorstep and opens up to McKendry's, so you can enjoy some of its 600 whiskies within seconds after finishing your meal. Again, be warned, it's not a cheap evening out, but the food is great and you are given a lovely atmosphere.
With Galgorm being so large, the only thing I wished was that I was given a map or some directions about where to go! When you're wandering around in a robe in the cold, you definitely want to know where you're going.
If I were a celebrity or someone used to luxury stays and looking for a relaxing hide-away with a touch of glamour, Galgorm ticks a lot of boxes: high-end spa, scenic setting, known-name guests, and good service. It's not cheap, but I would say it's worth the money.
