A lesser-known mobile network called spusu, is taking on major brands like Sky and giffgaff with its £5 phone plan. Originally founded in Austria and now operating in Italy and Switzerland, spusu entered the UK market in 2023 with a range of SIM-only plans designed for both domestic and EU use.
Living up to its slogan "simple. fair. for you." spusu keeps things straightforward with just three plans, starting at £4.90 per month for a 5GB SIM. The network is currently running a limited-time offer on its 60GB SIM-only deal for £12.90, available until 30 October. All spusu plans run on flexible 30-day rolling contracts, automatically renewing each month unless cancelled.
In addition to unlimited minutes and texts in the UK, spusu's plans also include allowances for use within the EU. Customers have the flexibility to switch their plan if they need more data or want to reduce costs, according to the Mirror.

Here's the latest spusu SIM-only deals:
- Spusu 5 - 5GB, unlimited minutes and texts, £4.90.
- Spusu 30 - 30GB, unlimited minutes and texts, £9.90.
- Spusu 50 - 50GB, unlimited minutes and texts, £11.90.
All three plans also offer additional benefits such as free EU roaming and international calls to the EU, with eSIMs, 5G, WiFi Calling, and VoLTE included at no extra charge. However, some smartphones are not compatible with spusu services such as WiFi Calling and VoLTE, so customers should check the website before signing up.
Spusu is making the switch easy for new members by allowing them to keep their phone number and cancel their old plan. The brand promises reliable coverage powered by EE, without any speed caps or restrictions, but advises customers to use its coverage checker before committing.
In competition with major brands like Sky, Spusu's plans are attractive. For instance, Sky's 60GB SIM-only costs £22 a month, but this deal requires a 12-month commitment from customers. Sky is currently offering introductory offers where the prices have been cut for the first few months of a plan.
Its 50GB SIM-only costs £10 a month but this is only for the first 9 months, the rest of the contract it rises up to £20 a month.
Meanwhile, giffgaff has recently begun offering its unlimited everything SIM-only for just £15. Normally priced at £25, this deal offers a saving of £180 over the course of the 18-month term.
Spusu is quickly gaining a loyal following, with plenty of customers leaving positive feedback on Trustpilot. One glowing five-star review stated: "The switch was smooth, and keeping my old number happened on schedule a few days after purchase. Friendly customer service. The phone and data connection seem excellent. 10 out of 10."
Another satisfied customer added: "The whole experience from the quick setup with eSim, the comprehensive app and the full benefits of EE's network at a fraction of the price, has been superb. Having a compatible phone is essential, and Spusu's website clearly states which ones are. Best of all is their customer service, quick to reply, UK-based and extremely helpful."
However, a separate review did highlight a minor issue with their spusu plan, noting: "Moved from Three and spusu have been quick, helpful, transparent and changing with PAC was easy. My only gripe is that they don't yet seem to offer a carry forward of unused data."
Most customers were impressed, with another glowing review stating: "The customer service is second to none." More information on the spusu Sim-Only deals can be found on the website.
